The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced aptitude tests for classes 9th and 10th. The board announced this through a circular on January 10, 2019. The circular states that ‘Know Your Aptitude (KYA) will help students get an idea about their strengths and weaknesses so that they can take career decisions accordingly. The test will also help teachers, parents and the school administrators to support the students while they make career choices.
The online registration for KYA will begin from January 29, 2019. CBSE-affiliated schools can register through the official website of CBSE. However, it is mandatory. Interested schools can register for KYA.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has developed this aptitude test which the teachers can administer at their respective schools. Schools will have to download the manual, test guides, test booklet and answer sheets that will be available on the CBSE website from January 29, 2019.

Students will have to appear for the test on a day decided by the school. After the test, teachers can assess their performance on the basis of the scoring guidelines. Then, schools can send a report on how the test was conducted, but they don’t have to share details of students with the board. The board also stated that the test is voluntary.

Schools hailed the move, as they need not pay for aptitude tests from private agencies.
Since the last three years, ‘Kal Chachani’ (aptitude test) is been conducted by the state education department to help students decide upon career options after passing their board exams. The tests were conducted online with schools using their computers, but from the current academic year, schools will have to use the smartphone app.
