The board examination of CBSE has been increased from this academic year. Schools have been asked to follow the new fee structure for registering all students. The All India Parents Association has criticsed the same.

CBSE Revised Fee

The Central Board of Secondary Education, which is commonly known by its abbreviation CBSE, has revised certain norms under which the fee of the board examinations of class 10th and class 12th has been increased. CBSE has increased the board examination fee for the students of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) from Rs. 50 to Rs. 1,200 while the fee for the general students has been doubled and is Rs. 1,500 now. However, the Congress has demanded that the CBSE take back the decision to hike fees of class 10 and 12 board examination. According to Congress, the fee hike will target SC/ST students.

All India Parents Association has strongly criticised the CBSE fee hike stating that this move of the board is unparliamentary and unconstitutional.e Ashok Aggarwal, Head, All India Parents Association said the constitution of India reserves the right of education for every student. The CBSE not only covers the private institutions, but it also has a government school in which most of the students are from a poor background.

The CBSE has asked all the schools that are affiliated to the Board to collect fee according to the revised norms now onwards. The registration of students appearing for class 10th board exams is done when they are in class 9th and that of class 12th students is done when they are in class 11th.

These changes were notified by the Board last week and the schools that have already commenced the registration process for boards have been asked to charge students as per new fee structure. The schools that have completed the process have been asked to collect the difference in the amount of the old and new fee structure.

As per the revised norms set by the CBSE, the students of SC and ST categories will be required to pay Rs. 1,200 for five subjects which is a hike of 24 times from the earlier fees of Rs. 50 that was set for them. The students belonging to the general category who used to pay Rs. 750 for five subjects earlier will pay Rs. 1,500 for the same now. A senior official of the CBSE said that this fee structure will be applicable for students of class 10th and 12th both.

The fee has also been altered for a candidate appearing for an additional subject in class 12th board exams. Initially, the SC and ST students were exempt from paying any fee for an additional subject but they will have to pay Rs. 300 for each subject now. The students of general category will pay Rs. 300 instead of Rs. 150 now.

Delhi Government To Pay CBSE Exam Fee

In a latest move by Delhi Cabinet, it has approved the proposal to pay the CBSE examination fee of around 3.14 lakh class 10 and class 12 students of the government schools. The approval is expected to cost the government Rs. 57.20 crore annually. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, approved the same, which includes government and distance learning schools.

Some other reforms have also been made by the CBSE in the Board examination fee. The visually impaired students do not have to pay the fee and the migration fee has increased from Rs. 150 to Rs. 350. The students who are enrolled in the CBSE schools aboard will now pay Rs. 10,000 for five subjects for class 10th and 12th both. The fee set for them earlier was Rs. 5,000. The fee for an additional subject in class 12th has also increased from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,000 for them.

The hike in fee set by the CBSE has taken the students by surprise. An increase by 24 times is quite an amount and no previous notifications were given by the CBSE regarding this. The decision regarding the fee has been opposed by many parties and associations.
