Recently, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to conduct two separate examinations for mathematics in the 10th standard Passing Board Examinations. The existing examination will be divided into two sectors which are ‘Basic Mathematics’ and ‘Standard Mathematics’ on which, separate examinations will be conducted. From 2020, CBSE will be providing the option of selecting mathematics in the class 10 registration form. Candidates will be asked to select their preference of the test while filling the new registration form.
The candidates who take ‘Basic Mathematics’ as Class 10 CBSE Examinations will be not permitted to take up Mathematics as a subject in 11th standard. From the year of 2020, students will only be allowed to sit only in one mathematics examination specified by the student in the registration form. Class 10 compartmental examinations will be held essential for taking Mathematics as a subject in 11th after passing 10uth With Basic Mathematics.
Students who opt for CBSE Mathematics- Standard and fail in the exam can appear in the compartment exam for Mathematics-Basic or Mathematics-Standard. Students opting for Mathematics-Basic can appear in the compartment exam only for the Basic level. If a student opts for Mathematics Basic and passes the exam but are planning to pursue mathematics at higher level, they will be allowed to appear for Mathematics-Standard compartment exam.

This directive from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) came with a couple of other directives issued by the board to the schools affiliated under it. Some of the other important directives that were sent to the school principals include the mandate of producing the death certificate of parents of students in case of demise and mandate for presenting a medical certificate in case of long leaves.
