The CBSE board has announced that students who are appearing for Class 10 board exams will have to score 33% aggregate marks in practical and theory exams. The announcement has come as a relief for CBSE Class 10 Students as earlier they were required to score 33% marks in theory and practical exams separately in order to pass the exams.
The decision has been made in order to ease the evaluation process for class 10 students as CBSE is reviving the class 10 board exams after several years.
Anita Karwal, Chairman of the Board added that this measure will be applicable only for the current batch of class 10 students. From 2019 onwards, the students will have to score 33% marks in both theory as well as practical exams in the exam.

The passing criteria have been changed for the current batch as they have been following a different assessment process till class 9. The decision was finalized at the exam committee of the board meeting that was held recently.
Till 2017, the board had followed the Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation (CCE) system where only 30% of the total marks were presented by the CBSE in the mark sheet. Last year, CBSE scrapped the CCE and replaced with the old board exam pattern.

However, CBSE added that this 33% criterion will not be applicable for the vocational subjects listed in Annexure I. Karwal further elaborated that internal assessment component of these subjects is of 50 marks, therefore they will not be exempted and candidates will have to score 33% for internal as well as external assessment.
