Last year, CBSE decided to make Health and Physical Education (HPE) as a compulsory period every day for students from Classes 9 -12. The board has now declared that the same rule will be applicable for all the students studying in classes 1st to 8th.
The board explains that it is necessary to inculcate teamwork and disciplines among the students for their overall development. The board further said that education is incomplete without the students getting proper exposure to health and physical education. Physical Education is an important component of the holistic development of students.
With the aim of contributing to the holistic development of children which will help them r to have a well-balanced life no matter which walks of life, they may choose in the future. The CBSE has decided to introduce the subject from the next academic year, i.e. 2019-20.

In the circular provided by the board, it states that it is compulsory for all CBSE affiliated schools to introduce the subject in the timetable of the children for the next academic year. The board has also advised all the affiliated schools to prepare the timetable with one period dedicated to Health and Physical Education. Outdoor activities like games and sports will be the main focus of HPE.

The board has also announced that they will upload the updated and revised transactional strategies along with the detailed methodology and guidelines for allocating Health and Physical Education to students, on their website as soon as possible. Meanwhile, CBSE will also introduce AI and Yoga as subjects from class 9th.
