The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has increased the number of meritorious awards conferred to teachers on Teachers’ Day from 34 to 48. The awards will be presented to outstanding teachers of CBSE affiliated schools. CBSE has introduced the concept of awards in the year 2000 and it has since then become a custom to honour the top performing school teachers every year. Apart from the increase in the number of awards, CBSE has revised the guidelines for the award as well.

CBSE Guidelines for Meritorious Teachers Award 2018:
- A teacher with a minimum of 10 years of experience is eligible to contest for the meritorious award.
- Retired teachers are not eligible for the award. However, if such teachers were in service for at least four months in the calendar year, they are eligible to contest for the award.
- Experience, age and percentage in education qualification are considered for the final selection.
- Teachers who are willing to contest for meritorious teacher award must provide the YouTube links to videos of actual classroom teaching to CBSE. The duration of the video should be at least 30 minutes.
Each award will consist of a merit certificate, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.

Eligible teachers can submit their application on the official website of CBSE. July 13, 2018, is the last date to apply for the meritorious teacher award.
