The dates for the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have been announced. The NET exam is conducted by the CBSE for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) or for Assistant Professor. The exam is conducted twice a year, once in the month of June and again in the month of December. The CBSE has released the notification for the December 2015 edition of the exam. The candidates desiring to appear for the exam must apply online from 1st October to 1st November 2015. The exam would be held on 27 December 2015.
Eligibility criteria for the CBSE NET 2015
The applicant must have completed or should be pursuing a UGC specified Master’s degree. He/She must have obtained minimum 55% in the Post Graduate examination. For SC/ST candidates the minimum marks is 50%.
An applicant who has just entered the final year of the post-graduation or whose final year result is yet to be declared can still apply for the exam. These candidates would be considered eligible for lecturer ship only when they have completed their post- graduation with minimum required marks.
The candidates allowed to appear in the exam provisionally must complete their post-graduation within two years of the declaration of the NET result.
Those candidates who completed their masters by 19th September 1991 and hold a Ph.D. degree would be allowed a relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying examination.
Candidates exempted from the NET exam
The candidates who have been awarded a Ph.D. as per the norms of University Grants Commission are exempted from appearing in any NET exam.
Those candidates who passed the UGC/CSIR JRF exam prior to 1989 are also exempted from any of the NET exam.
The Age Limit
For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
The upper age limit is set to be at 28 years as on 1st June 2015.
SC/ST/PWD/Women applicants and OBC-NCL category candidates would be allowed a relaxation of 5 years.
Candidates with research experience in the relevant subject of their post-graduation would be given a relaxation provided they have a supporting certificate from the appropriate authority.
The candidates with an LLM degree would be allowed a relaxation of 3 years.
For Lecturer ship
No upper age limit has been prescribed for candidates applying to the test to become eligible for Assistant professorship or Lecturer ship.
Procedure for obtaining the Admit Card
The board would upload the admit cards for the NET December 2015 exam on its official website and only those candidates who have paid the fees would be able to download it. In no manner would the admit cards be dispatched to the addresses of the candidates and therefore need to be downloaded online only. At the time of the examination the candidates are required to bring the printout of their admit cards along with a photo identity.
The Examination Pattern
The exam paper would be divided into three parts that would be conducted in morning, forenoon and afternoon sessions. The questions would be objective type and multiple choice.
1)Paper 1: The duration of the exam would be 1 hour 15 minutes and would carry 60 questions out of which 50 need to be answered. It would be of 100 marks. The paper would be of general nature and would test the candidate for teaching and research abilities.
2)Paper 2: The duration of the exam would be of 1 hour 15 minutes and would have 50 questions. It would be of 100 marks. The questions in it are based on the subject selected by the candidate.
3)Paper 3: The duration of the exam would be of 2 hours and 30 minutes and would have 75 questions. The questions would be based on the selective subjects of the candidates.
