CBSE Scraps 41 Vocational & Academic Subjects from Class 12

The CBSE also clarified that the students who are entering Class 12 and have selected subjects among these 41 are allowed to take the examination in these subjects next year.

Finally, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has scrapped 34 vocational and 7 academic subjects from Class 12 as these courses are recording less enrollment. A total number of 41 subjects have been scrapped by CBSE. The CBSE confirmed the decision through a circular.

The CBSE also clarified that the students who are entering Class 12 and have selected subjects among these 41 will be allowed to take the examination in these subjects next year. However, the students who are entering into Class 11 in 2017-18 will not have the option to choose the subjects that have been scrapped by CBSE.

CBSE has scrapped the following academic electives: -

  • Human Rights and Gender Studies
  • Library and Information Science
  • Theatre Studies
  • Graphic Design
  • Heritage Craft
  • Creative Writing and Translation Studies
  • Philosophy

The circular indicated that the CBSE has scrapped these courses due to low enrollment and these courses will not be available from the next academic session, i.e., 2017-18.

CBSE has also scrapped 34 vocational subjects that include: -

  • Integrated Transport Operations
  • Music Aesthetics
  • Health Education
  • Confectionery
  • Communication
  • Poultry Nutrition and Physiology
  • Dairy Animals
  • First Aid and Medical Emergency Care
  • Office Communication

The circular issued by CBSE further clarified that a total number of six subjects are mandatory for Class 10 board examinations from 2017-18 academic session. On the other hand, the students who are going to take Class 10 board exams next year will have to give three academic papers, two language papers and one vocational exam.
