Andhra University, Vizag will soon get a Centre for African Studies to carry out studies on African literature and culture. Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, Mr. G. Nageswararao made this announcement at the 92 nd foundation day celebrations of the varsity on April 26, 2017. He also announced that new hostel facilities for foreign women will be also provided soon. The varsity is also taking steps to attract more international students to the varsity.

The Centre for African Studies will enable students to have a clear understanding of a wide range of cultures that are prevalent in Africa as well as various languages native to it.

VC of Andhra University also revealed that the varsity has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the defence forces to offer various courses to the personnel on various subjects like Urdu, Arabic, German, Japanese, French and other languages.

Prof. Nageswararao also recalled the significant contributions made by his great predecessors like Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Sir CR Reddy for the development of the varsity. He also expressed that great scientists like Srinivasa Iyengar, S. Venkataraman, Hiren Mukherjee, VKRV Rao, Suri Bhagavantham and Sir C.V. Raman contributed towards the academic excellence and growth of Andhra University.

The varsity is also extending training opportunities to research scholars and students on soft skills and personality development for better employability. The varsity has been successful in training 100 research scholars and 400 students so far.

Explaining about the developmental activities of the varsity, Prof. Nageswararao said that the varsity had tied up with TCS to digitalize the School of Distance Education and the services related to SDU will be online soon.
