Centre Grants Rs. 11 Crore to IIEST for Homeopathy Research

The Government of India has granted Rs. 11 crores to the IIEST or Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology for carrying out medical research on homeopathy. The government granted funds to IIEST under ‘AYUSH’ project.

Director of IIEST, Prof. Ajoy Kumar Roy revealed that the institute would buy instruments that will help in carrying out research. There is a separate laboratory at IIEST for conducting medical research on homeopathy, and it is named after Dr. Bhola Chakraborty, a famous homeopath.

He further indicated that the laboratory would lay more emphasis to biochemistry and bio-physics-based research. The laboratory is completely dedicated towards understanding science.

Prof. Ajoy Kumar mentioned that the AYUSH Ministry suggested the institute to name the laboratory after Dr. Bhola Chakraborty. He was a renowned physician who made a significant contribution in the field of homeopathy.

Prof. Ajoy expressed that IIEST has emerged as one of the best engineering institutes in India. The institute will become one among the top 10 institutes if the faculty strength is increased. As of now, the institute has been performing at par with IITs, he added.

Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) has been working consistently to expand its international outreach. Currently, the institute reserves 50% of admissions to the students from the West Bengal state. The institute is also admitting around 15 students from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and African countries. The institute has a special cultural exchange programme.

The government must encourage a high number of premier institutes to take up extensive research activities. For this purpose, the government should generate more funds from various sources. Most of the Indian institutes lack funds to take up quality research works.
