23 team of students were awarded the Chhatra Vishwakarma Awards on 24 February 2020 by the Union Human Resource Development Minister Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank” for their innovation. A total of 6,676 teams applied for the prestigious award out of which only 117 could make it to the final round. Eventually, 23 teams were chosen as winners under eight different sub-categories. The Union Minister commented that there is no dearth of talent in the country.
He termed the winners and the participants as “real assets” of the country who have raised the bar for the next batch of students. He also added that the projects created by the students are a boon to the common man as it eradicates most of the problems they face on a regular basis.
AICTE first started giving this award in the year 2017 with an aim of promoting scientific temperament and innovative spirit for the holistic development of the society. AICTE collaborated with the NITI Ayog’s Atal Innovation Mission and the Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE) in the year 2019.

According to a senior AICTE official, a total of 2,732 teams from all across the nation submitted their solutions which were trimmed down to 117 teams in the final round after a careful evaluation of the reports submitted by them. In the final round, the teams were asked to exhibit their prototype at the National Convention and exhibition.

All the top three teams in each sub-category received cash prizes and appreciation certificates, The top three teams under each sub-category received cash amounts of INR 51,000/-, INR 31,000/- and INR 21,000/- respectively.
