The Academic Council of Panjab University has once again scheduled a meeting with the members of the Senate of the Panjab University Administration regarding the recommendation of introduction of choice based credit system (CBCS) in undergraduate courses. The meeting will be held on January 21, 2018.
After the approval of the CBCS in principle, it was to be implemented from session 2018-19. However, the approval is pending as it has not yet been ticked by the Vice-Chancellor. The senators and college authorities have criticised the system of CBCS and fear difficulties for the upcoming academic session.
Colleges are not ready physically and mentally to accept the changes that will be introduced by CBCS, says senator Hardiljit Singh Gosal. He also added that they do not have proper infrastructure for CBCS. Another senator Dr Vipul Narang debated that the teachers are also not ready for this implementation.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Arun Kumar Grover, advocated for CBCS and said that they have received a letter from University Grants Commission stating that if the new system is introduced then the university has the authority to start many online courses.
The meeting with the Senate, Syndicate of the Panjab University Administration also advised the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) to submit summary of 33 different cases that involves interference of the vigilance department. One such case includes charging abnormal rate of contracts for supply of electronic goods for the university. This complaint was filed by professor V.K. Chopra.
