Civil Engineering Department of Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology organised a one-day programme of Industrial Meet on March 11th, 2016.
The programme was graced with the presence of some of the best achievers of today in Civil Engineering Industry of the whole India such as the Technical Director at AECOM, Kolkata: Mr. N. Banerjee, the Head-Technical Services(Cement)-OCL India Limited & Dalmia Cement East Ltd: Mr. S. Vaidya, Eminent Professor of Civil Engineering Department Prof. Sanyal and many more dignitaries.
The programme was mainly organised to provide a clear-cut insight and the recent trend and growth perspective of the current Civil Engineering Industry in India and abroad. Mr Vaidya spoke about the growth and reality of Cement industry in India. According to him, Indian Cement Industry will grow from 350 million tonnes per annum right now to 650 million tonnes per annum by 2020. Its growth rate is 8.1% currently and the growth rate will get higher as the Building and infrastructure industry is growing largely these days and it is a great news for the Civil Engineering students as the more this industry would grow the more opportunities will be generated for future Civil Engineers.
Mr Banerjee said that besides the cement and construction industry, the designing sector will also grow simultaneously in upcoming few years as nowadays there are lots of projects and initiatives taken by the government and private sectors of the country are more based on innovative and structural design which is good sign for the growth of the present and upcoming Civil Engineers of the nation.
The Industrial Meet was a part of 160th Anniversary celebration of the Civil Engineering Department of the College. The Industrial Meet held at Alumni Seminar Hall.
Later, on the next day, there was another seminar on Temptations of certainty: Problems of an ordinary academic by Dhrubajyoti Ghosh.
