Where the fear of dropping a year was never faced by students, now they stare at dropping a year. The reason behind it is a significant delay in sixth-semester results of the University of Mumbai.
Many students have applied for further courses in other prestigious institutes, however, they are not sure of convincing the institutes on the basis of five semesters result.
Owing to a scam related to tampering of answer sheets, the decision was taken to evaluate all final year answer sheets digitally. This required a timely decision making which the University failed to make. As a result, the process was extended four times and exam assessment which usually begins three days after exams were delayed for more than a month this year.

Another reason fo the delay is that teachers are leaving for summer vacations further delaying the assessment process. Teachers need to cut their vacations short to accelerate the assessment.
An online petition was launched against the University by students’ organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
This problem is not new for Mumbai University. Earlier there was a delay in fifth-semester examinations as well. In October 2016, a student cleared his back paper in the re-examination, however, due to error in his marksheet he lost his new job at a bank.
Another persisting problem was holding the re-examination before declaration of revaluation process results. This forced many students to anyway take the re-examination and pay a fee of Rs. 500 per exam.
