After facing a shortage of teachers and staff at colleges, students in Bihar have finally got some good news after the government announced that three new universities will be established in the state – namely Bihar Animal Sciences University, Patliputra University and Purnia University . Bihar will now have 23 universities including these three.
There has been a teaching void in the higher education system due to the late salary payment or no payment at all. Education in the state has suffered a lot and in such times the news of three new universities is a welcome development. Bihar has been trying to get the education sector back on the right track for a while now.

Following are some education highlights of the state:
- Mahatma Gandhi Central University started functioning in 2016 at Motihari
- 80 study centers were established by the Nalanda Open University in backward regions of the state. The university aims to develop a total of 140 centers
- VCs of various universities have decided to develop an independent data center to store administrative, financial and academic patterns. Along with this, they have decided to include e-depositories to store relevant information
- Illegal appointment of 40 employees was canceled by the Chancellor. These appointments were done by the Selection Committee of Maulana Mazharul Haq Arabic and Persian University. Fresh appointments will be done for these posts
- The Chancellor's Secretariat will also be appointing VCs in different universities of the state

After the direction of the Patna High Court, the Bihar Public Service Commission has also started conducting interviews for shortlisting candidates to fill up the teaching posts that are vacant.
