As a part of an initiative titled ‘Classroom to Industry’, intended to give industrial exposure to mass communication students, The Centre for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication (CSJMC), Dibrugarh University hosted Ashok Ananad and Jatinder Peters, experts of petroleum industry to interact with the students about relations of the media and industry on May 12.
Oil industry expert Anand, Director General, Petrotech, New Delhi was the former Director of Oil India Limited and Jatinder Peters, Sevretary, Petrotech, New Delhi was the former General Manager with ONGC.
Both the experts spoke on the significance of industry and media relations. During the interaction with the students, Anand shared his views on media responsibilities and said that the media is responsible for bringing out truth in the society and shaping opinions. In addition, he shared his professional experience and said that no matter what the profession is, sheer hard work and honesty can always lead a man to climb the ladder of success.
On the other hand, Jatinder Peters, explained how the relationship between media and industry is symbiotic. She pointed out the significance of public relations expressing that public relations is definitely a long term relationship between the organisation and its various stakeholders. It is important for an organisation to keep in mind the welfare of the individuals that are associated with the organization.
The interactive session was attended by students of Dibrugarh University. Dr Satyakam Borthakur, Director of CSJMC, and the faculty members were also present in the session.
