  • Om Birla Becomes First Lok Sabha Speaker In 20 Years To Be Re-Elected As MP: With 41, 139 votes, Om Birla, has been re-elected as the Lok Speaker, after winning the Kota parliamentary seat on June 4, 2024.

  • MoD Signs MoUs To Expand SPARSH Service Centers: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has partnered with four major banks to improve pensioner services, which is a major step forward. The purpose of these Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) is to create SPARSH service centres throughout 1,128 branches countrywide by utilising the System for Pension Administration (RAKSHA). A web-based system called SPARSH makes it easier to process pensions quickly and directly credit their bank accounts to those of defence pensioners.

International Current Affairs 6 June 2024

  • D-Day: Operation Overlord: Americans learned that three years of concentrated war effort had finally resulted in D-day, military code for the unknown time of a planned British, American, and Canadian attack, early on June 6, 1944. Over 5,300 ships and 11,000 planes had crossed the English Channel and touched down on the Normandy beaches during the night. Establishing a Western front in Europe was the aim shared by all the soldiers and civilians involved in that endeavour, which was to force the German forces back to Berlin.

  • Russian Cosmonaut Becomes 1st Person To Spend 1,000 Cumulative Days In Space: Oleg Kononenko, the Roscosmos state corporation cosmonaut, is the first person in the world to complete 1,000 days in space. Currently, he is working in the International Space Station.
  • 12 Countries Signed Zero Debris Charter – Pivot To Space Sustainability: The European Space Agency (ESA) led a landmark initiative signed by 12 countries on the Zero Debris Charter to address the issue of space debris. Unveiled in 2023, the Charter commits signatories to achieving debris-neutral space activities by 2030.

  • Sunil Chhetri plays his last match for India in the FIFA World Cup Qualifier: Sunil Chhetri, former Captain of the Indian Football team plays his last match against Kuwait on June 6, 2024, for the FIFA World Cup Qualifier, ending the game on a disappointing note of 0-0. He is known as a Legend to the Indian football for his contribution, during his 19-year-long career, where he scored 94 goals and a total of 151 matches.
