The Aam Aadmi Party government has launched a scheme for funding higher studies of roughly 100 Dalit students overseas. Meritorious students who wish to pursue M.Phil and PhD courses in law , agriculture, medicine and engineering are eligible to apply under this scheme.
The cabinet is likely to consider the proposal soon as per Delhi’s SC/ST Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam. Under this proposal, the government will offer financial assistance up to Rs. 10 lakh for a course having a 2-year duration, and up to Rs. 20 lakh for a course having a 4-year duration to approximately 100 candidates. According to Gautam, it is happening for the first time in Delhi.

The family income should be Rs. 6 lakh to be eligible for the scholarship. Since pursuing higher studies overseas is a costly affair and there are so many talented people who miss out on this due to the lack of funds, the AAP government has taken this step.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment also offers financial support to 100 candidates every year under the National Overseas Scholarship for SC students. Last year, the AAP government had come up with a scheme under which Dalit students could get free coaching for various exams.
