Manish Sisodia, Education Minister of the state, took the decision in a high-level meeting that took place on December 28, 2016 . According to sources, upgrading DIETs and SCERT will increase the number of faculty positions from 260 to 600 (approximately). It has also been decided to bring amendments in the pay scale of faculties along with qualifications. A total number of two new DIETs will come into existence. Currently, there are three DIETs in the state which offer B.Ed, Diploma in Pre-School and DIET courses.

DIETS and SCERT came into existence in the year 1980. The primary objective of SCERT and DIETs is to educate teachers, develop education-related materials and curriculum as well as undertake research in the problems that arise in the school education. Even though the sphere of these institutions expanded, the policies and sanctioned staff positions have not been changed.

Therefore, the government has taken a step to amend the policies related to sanctioned staff positions, pay scale and qualifications of faculty. The additional vacancies will give a boost to the teacher education in the state.
