- Delhi University cut-offs 2018 are expected to increase from 0.25% to 1% this year due to the rise in CBSE class 12 high scorers.
With the announcement of CBSE class 12 results , students applying for admission to Delhi University can now fill up their scores. According to the reports of CBSE, 12,737 class 12 students have scored marks above 95%. Whereas, 72,599 students have scored marks above 90% in CBSE class 12 board exams . Due to this, Delhi University cut-offs 2018 are expected to rise from 0.25% to 1%.
The number of students scoring 95% and above has increased by 2,646, whereas, those who scored above 90% increased in number by almost 19,000 as compared to the result of 2017, CBSE reported. This will directly impact the DU Cut-offs 2018 as close to 80% of the DU applicants are from CBSE board.
The cut-offs for Delhi University are decided according to the number of applications received by the respective colleges and the marks of the students in the board exams. So far, DU has received close to 2 lakh applications for the session 2018-19 and the last date to apply for admissions is June 7.

DU Officials explained that the reason why DU releases such high cut-offs is to avoid over admissions. They added that all colleges are provided with the expected number of applicants at every 0.25 percentage points difference in order to help them estimate the number of students who can turn up for admission.
For example, cut-offs for Economics (Hons.) and B.Com (Hons.) offered by some of the most popular colleges like Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) was above 95% in order to prevent over admissions. In the past, some of the colleges have also declared 100% cut-offs for B.Com (Hons) and Computer Science (Hons.), however, the trend discontinued after 2015.

Officiating Principal, Hans Raj College , Rama, said that the cut-off is expected to rise by up to 1% but it is difficult to figure out which courses will be impacted the most.
