The administration of the University of Delhi is taking steps to digitise attendance-recording system from the next academic session. It will be an app-based system where students can track the attendance in real time through their mobile phones. Delhi University is also planning to counsel or help the students if they skip the classes for a long period. Currently, the mobile app, which tracks the attendance of DU students, is at the beta testing phase in four DU colleges and DU’s School of Journalism. The varsity is hoping for a good feedback and experience on the beta version of the app.

Already, a few colleges have digitalised the attendance recording system and gained good feedback and transparency in the system. DU is also planning the same with an objective to improve accountability with regard to attendance.

According to the plan, the teachers will have to record the attendance of each class on the mobile application, and students can track the same through the mobile application. Every year, a large number of students facing the shortage of attendance due to which, they are forced to repeat the academic session or not allowed to appear for the exams. The digital attendance tracking system will help the students to keep a check on the percentage of attendance in each semester or year of the course.
Currently, the beta version of the app is being tested in four DU colleges including Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Aryabhatta College, Shivaji College and Lakshmibai College. These colleges were given responsibility to give the feedback to DU regarding the functioning of the app.
