In a recent announcement, J Jayalalithaa announced that District Institute of Education and Training centres will be opened in Perambalur and Coimbatore districts to provide academic and resource support for teachers in service and prospective teachers. A report of Times of India said.
The Chief Minister made this declaration in the assembly. She said that SC/ST-dominated districts like Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Nagapattinam, Nilgiris, Perambalur, Villupuram and Tiruvarur would get block institute for teacher education and training centres, which will offer the diploma in elementary education. In all, the state will create 135 posts in these institutes.
As many as 107 elementary schools were upgraded to middle schools and 182 new elementary schools had been opened in the last four years, Jayalalithaa said, adding that her government was keen on to open 39 elementary schools in the areas already identified by the department. In elementary and middle schools, about 770 additional classrooms would be built to meet the growing needs at Rs 56 crore.
"In addition to state's share of Rs 129.54 lakh, I am happy to announce that an additional allocation of Rs 996 crore will also be made to construct buildings," she said. The government will bear the cost of Rs 267.53 lakh for the left out schools.
