On 9th July’ 16, a MoA-Memorandum of Agreement was signed between IIT Bombay , DRDO-Defence Research and Development Organisation and IIT Madras .
This pact among IIT Madras, DRDO and IIT Bombay is made with an aim to establish a bi-nodal ‘Centre of Propulsion Technology’ (CoPT) at these two Indian Institute of Technology.
This scheme is made so that DRDO can make an alliance with the IITs and vice versa. It will help them channelising the research efforts towards developing products and related critical aerospace technologies.
After the MoU was signed Christopher, DG DRDO said, “The construction of this centre will attract talent to the field.”
The DG had a fruitful discussion with Director of the IIT and assured them about how much DRDO is dedicated towards this project.
The centre which will be set up at IIT Bombay and IIT Madras will also work and analyse the advanced collaborative research in the areas of critical defence technologies.
The centre will allow the IITs to work in following fields:
- Futuristic Aero Engines
- Morphing Aircraft Technologies
- Hypersonic Propulsion for Long Duration Flights
- Solid propellant combustion modelling
