DU Law Semester Exams: 250 Students Barred from Appearing in Exams

  • Delhi University Law Faculty has detained about 250 students from appearing in the semester exams because of low attendance.
  • Out of those detained, majority are first-year students who will have to take fresh admission next year through the DU LLB Entrance Test.
DU Law Semester Exams: 250 Students Barred from Appearing in Exams

The University of Delhi has taken stringent step by not allowing 250 law students with low attendance from appearing in the semester exams. According to the norms of Law Faculty of DU, students must have a minimum of 70% of attendance in a semester to sit for exams. The first-year students who were detained by DU Law Faculty due to less attendance are worst hit, as they will have to appear for the entrance exam again and take fresh admission next year. The semester exams at DU Law Faculty began on December 12, 2017.

A first-year law student at DU expressed that he was not issued the admit card for the semester exams as his name was listed among the students with less than 70% attendance. He has no other option except to wait until the next year to appear for the entrance exam conducted by Law Faculty of DU.

Secretary of the Delhi University Students’ Union pointed that the Law Faculty gave a special provision to first-year students with low attendance last year. DUSU will hold a protest against the Law Faculty demanding justice for the detained first-year students, whose future is at stake.

On the other hand, Dean of Law Faculty, Ved Kumari clarified that the mandatory attendance rule was prescribed by the Bar Council of India (BCI). Without 70% attendance, students will not be allowed to sit for the exams. The first-year students, who were detained, will have to take fresh admission by qualifying in the entrance exam next year. The admission of all these students will be cancelled, she stated.
