DU: Modern Indian Language Candidates to get 10% Extra Points for Admission in BA Programme

  • Getting extra marks will also depend on the colleges you wish to apply.

DU: Modern Indian Language Candidates to get 10% Extra Points for Admission in BA Programme

Candidates who have pursued a Modern Indian Language at 10+2 levels will be awarded 10% extra marks if they seek admission in DU’s BA Programme for that particular language. Modern languages will include regional languages such as Bengali and Tamil.

In order to get these extra 10% marks, aspirants will have to apply for BA Programme in the language they have studied as MIL. According to university officials, the extra 10% marks will be given on the percentage of the best four subjects.

Another factor that will play a role in getting these extra marks is the college for which you are planning to apply. Extra marks will be given for admission to only those colleges that offer the BA Programmes in the respective MIL.

Among the modern Indian languages offered by DU are Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Extra marks for these languages are awarded during admission in order to encourage students to take up Indian languages at higher education level.

BA Programme offered in modern Indian languages have a diverse curriculum. Students willing to enroll in these programmes must have one language subject as well as three elective subjects.

Students who change their field to get into these programmes will be at a disadvantage as 5% marks will be deducted from their best four subject score.

According to the data of DU admissions 2017, the maximum number of applications have been received for the BA and English (Hons) programmes. This has further proved that DU offers some quality language programmes.
