The proposed hostel will facilitate camps and will provide residential space for sports persons visiting or studying at the university. Currently, DU has to accommodate these sportsmen at the hostels of colleges affiliated to it, which is very inconvenient to the students as there is a lack of seats available.

Secretary of Sports Council, DU, Anil Kalkal, said that the UGC has granted Rs.75 lakh for construction of the hostel and Rs.90 lakh for the shooting range. He also informed that the university has been granted Rs.10 lakh to buy sports equipment for these facilities. The plans and structure ae ready and the construction will begin shortly.

The shooting range will have the state-of-the-art facilities with computerized infrastructure for short ranged air pistol and rifle categories. Apart from this, the facility will have a multipurpose hall and other indoor games complexes.

The Delhi University does not have its own shooting facility and the students, in need of these facilities go to Karni Singh shooting range in Tughlakabad for practice.

The new shooting range will motivate students to perform better. There are various students of DU who have represented India in international shooting events and have made the country proud.
