In its bid to go digital, Delhi University is planning to develop a portal to maintain a record of Ph.D. students. The portal will be used to keep track of the developments related to the Ph.D. programmes including enrollment of students, submission of thesis, work progress, etc.
According to the information conveyed by an examination department official, the portal is being established to increase the efficiency of students’ work. He added that the notification related to the research works and field reports of the Ph.D. scholars will be updated on this online portal.

The official also informed that the details of research work and findings of scholars will be kept confidential and will not be added to the online portal.
Currently, all the work-related records of Ph.D. programmes including admission, research report, interview, attendance, viva, thesis, marks, progress report and others are maintained manually.
The official added that this manual file system will soon be replaced by the online portal. This will save time and resources of the DU authorities and will enable the Ph.D. students to keep a track of their progress via the internet.

A MoU was signed by Delhi University with the UGC in 2014, allowing them to upload thesis and papers of its research scholars on an online portal and maintain a digital database by the name 'Shodhganga repository'. Currently, 27 departments Of DU provide Ph.D. courses in different fields including sciences, arts, commerce, etc.
