DU Topper Struggles to get her Gold Medal

Pratichi Majumdar, a student of the Delhi University, has been struggling for the last one year to get her gold medal from the university. The 25-year old topper scored 999 out of 1,600 in MA Sociology exams, 2014. However, during the convocation in 2015, the gold medal was awarded to a student who scored less marks than her.

The student who won the gold medal scored 977 and came in fourth. The examination cell of the university states that result of MA was sent by the Sociology Department in two batches. Pratichi and the other three toppers’ names were mentioned in the second list.

An official from the examination branch said that the discrepancy occurred due to the delay on the part of University department as they announced the second list of result after a gap of 45 days. By the time the second list came out, the names of the toppers were announced and medals were given out.

The official also added that after the student filed a complaint, they started looking into the matter and it was found out that the certificate and medal were already awarded to another student. It will now be unfair to take the medal back from the student added the official. Therefore they will have to come up with a solution that will be in the favour of both the students.

This is the first time that such an error had occurred in the history of the Delhi University. Pratichi Majumdar has waited for a long time to receive her awards. Vinay Gupta, the Dean, Examination Branch, Vinay Gupta said that they are trying to find a solution.
