The Institute of Home Economics of the University of Delhi is all set to offer B.A Journalism (Hons) from the coming academic session. With the latest development, IHE has become the sixth college in DU to offer the course. The following are the five colleges of DU that offer B.A Journalism (Hons) course: -
- Maharaja Agrasen College
- Delhi College of Arts and Commerce
- Kamala Nehru College
- Kalindi College
- Lady Shri Ram College for Women
Mr. Yuki Azaad, Assistant Professor at Institute of Home Economics revealed that the institute has already been teaching specialised courses in film production, radio, communication and print media. The institute has all the necessary equipment to support these fields. The institute planned to launch B.A Journalism (Hons) course three years ago. However, the plan has received approval now, and the course will be offered from the upcoming academic session, he added.

Professors who are currently teaching at the college and guest faculty who specialise in various fields of the industry will teach the students. Mr. Azaad also indicated that the students could also take up short-term or add-on courses besides B.A Journalism (Hons). The Institute offers short-term or add-on courses in Photoshop, Coral Draw, Radio Jockey Training and Photography. These courses will be an advantage for the students in the field.
The process for applying or B.A Journalism (Hons) is same as other DU college applications. The registration process is going on now, and the last date to register is June 12, 2017. The first cut-off will be out on June 20, 2017.
Vartika Nanda, HOD of Journalism at LSR expressed that only five colleges have been offering B.A Journalism (Hons) until now. Now, the new addition will give an opportunity for more students to take up the course. She also mentioned that majority of the students take up Journalism course at PG level. Therefore, very few colleges offer this course at UG level. It is time to expand the sphere of the course and encourage more institutes to offer the course.

Journalism (Hons) course at Delhi University is very popular. This year, around 45,000 students registered for Journalism (Hons) programme so far.
