Three years back, Gandhinagar-based Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) had conducted a 10-week course on entrepreneur development, in association with Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission (GSBTM), in the field of biotechnology. Now, 14 entrepreneurs have established their own business venture and are running independently, employing hundreds of people in their units.
The institute in a statement said that EDII has launched a programme to promote innovative enterprises in different areas of life sciences. GSBTM, in association with EDII, runs the Bio technopreneur programme to promote, facilitate, support and help the overall development of biotechnology in the state of Gujarat. This 10- month weekend programme course aims at providing entrepreneurship skills to those highly motivated individuals, offer inputs on developing leadership quality.

Several financial, business and academic organisations are the knowledge partners. These include-
- Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A)
- Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE)
- GVFL, formerly known as Gujarat Venture Finance Limited
The press release further stated that the programme aims to contribute to the sustainable development of society and provide support to biotech business. It is an intensive curriculum that focuses on different aspects of the biotechnology related to multifaceted financial aspects, regulatory issues, marketing etc.

The programme runs under the mentorship and support for the students. After the initial training, they work under them and get practical exposure from the renowned experts and people from that field. After attending the programme, students get motivated. Instead of seeking employment they offer employment to others.
