It seems that the every year the campus placements at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is bogged down by a calamity, be it natural ones or emotional ones. Last year, when the flurry of floods hit the state, campus recruitment was badly affected. This year again, the campus placements at the institute is set to suffer due to emotional breakdown over Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha's health.

Several companies based out of 'Silicon City' Bengaluru, have expressed their fears and anxieties in visiting the campus of IIT Madras fearing law and order situation in Tamil Nadu.
A spokesperson of the training and placements cell of IIT Madras said that several companies are calling them to find out the situations prevalent in the state. However, no clear picture is emerging out right now. There are rumours of all kinds that has created a fear psychosis amongst the recruiters and they are in a catch 22 situation regarding their visit to the state.

The spokesperson further said that some of the companies have already backed out fearing the situation in the state. Till now ,around 400 students have been placed by various companies and over 900 students are in the lineup for campus recruitments. An analysis of the recruitment drive reveals that every day 100 students are recruited by different companies. Looking at this current situation it seems that the future of these job aspiring students are at stake and it will toll heavily on their future career path if the situation does not improve or comes to normalcy.
