While Tamil Nadu reports massive vacant seats in engineering colleges in TN , another neighbouring state has reported a hike in the demand in engineering. As the second round of counselling for Karnataka CET examination concluded, the K-CET Authorities have reported that there are 13,120 seats yet to be filled for engineering in Karnataka Engineering colleges . This year a total of 1,40,967 candidates have been recognised eligible for engineering admissions through KCET Counselling for a total seat number of 59,000 in Karnataka Engineering Colleges.
As per the previous years’ data, the number of vacant seats exceeds 20,000 after second counselling. Seeing the number of vacant seats this year, the experts have said that there is a change this year. A senior professor of a Karnataka Engineering College has said that it is surprising that students are coming in big numbers for engineering even though there is a trend of saying that Engineering has fewer takers. He added that the seats which are remaining will be filled through general merit as all the other quota admissions have been over.
