90 percent engineering seats are vacant in the engineering colleges of Uttar Pradesh. This is trending all over India, news of vacant engineering and management seats is coming from every city. 214 colleges come under the APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University and 90 percent seats in total are vacant even after the last round of counselling. 90 is the percentage for civil and mechanical engineering and for computer science, the percentage is 77.

APJ University has a total number of 1,07,000 seats but only 11,673 seats have been claimed. Most experts say that this big drop in the percentage is because of the change in the name of the University.
Following are the before and after names of the Universities:
- Before- Uttar Pradesh Technical University, After- Gautam Buddh Technical University
- Before- Mahamaya Technical University, After- Abdul Kalam Technical University.
Officials also say that the quality of education is poor and infrastructure is also not up to the mark.

Vinay Pathak who is the Vice Chancellor of APJ Technical University said that India is experiencing a major drop in the number of engineering students and it is time to step up the game. The numbers can be increased by providing better placements and accreditation, this will help attract students.
