An engineering student from Moradabad developed an application that detects viruses in systems and has now landed a job with Microsoft.
A B.Tech final year student of software engineering, Akash Kumar from Kashipur says that he has been keenly interested in cyber security for a while. Akash, whose father runs a computer hardware business, has been tinkering around with gadgets since childhood. While at college he made several applications under the able tutelage of his teachers. Finally he came up with an application that targets and removes online viruses. After having tested it he finally sent it to the Microsoft headquarters in the US.
The result of this 22 years old engineer’s efforts was that the company got back to him and informed him that they were very much interested in his application. He was further invited by Microsoft to California for an interview and was subsequently offered the job of security analyst at a starting salary of $85,000 (Rs 56 lakh) a year. Akash would be joining the company as soon as he finishes his studies in September this year.
His teacher RB Pandey said,” He will be working with Microsoft’s research and development centre, which has expressed keen interest in the work he has done so far at the institute.”
Kumar himself stated,” I approached Microsoft while completing my research on algorithms to detect viruses. My work will help protect digital information, including bank account statements and other personal information such as credit card numbers as well as trade secrets and classified government documents.” He further added,” Everyone had information they want to keep secure. Protecting such data is a very important part of information security.”
RB Saxena, director general of the institute said,” Microsoft showed a keen interest in his work on information security. The fact that they have taken him on is a matter of great pride for the college as well as the people of the city.”
