The Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK) has decided to start e-learning facility for 1st year engineering students from 1st week of February. In a circular dated January 22, the university stated that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chennai-based M-Tutor, which will start providing e-learning facility to students through a mobile application .
The MoU, which was signed early 2015 for the Department of Technology students, will be extended to other students of affiliated engineering colleges soon, the circular added. The company will put various online videos and tutorials based on the syllabus on the application, which will be available free of cost to the students. The proposed application can be downloaded on laptops, smart phones, tablets and personal computers.
According to officials, the company has been asked to provide free service to the students for a year, while nominal fees will be charged from the next year onwards. University officials said the application will be available on its website as well as on that of M-Tutor for free downloading. An SUK official said initially only B.Tech first year topics will be available in the application, which will be subsequently expanded to other academic years of the same course.
"The students will be provided solved and unsolved question banks, along with online assessment. Even as the application will be available through the internet only, the students can view the content offline as well. The content has been developed by IIT faculties," the official said." Besides, a few topics will also be available with voice-over options in English and other regional languages," the official added. This initiative has been welcomed by students. This will benefit many students future career.
