With the advancement in the IT sector of our country, the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in the Engineering curriculum has taken a pace. While the importance of Data Science and AI in the field of technology has been recognised globally for almost a decade now, not many Engineering Colleges in India offer programmes like B.Tech in AI and Data Science. Colleges like IIT Mandi and IIIT Naya Raipur have experimented with their curriculum to promote the field and mould the students into prospective data scientists.
According to IIIT-Naya Raipur’s Chairperson, Ajai Chowdhary the job requirement for Data Science Engineering and AI is not only constrained to the IT sector but the Management field as well. It is important to take into account the essentiality to bridge the between industry-academia. In his recent interview with a leading Newspaper, he talked about how the inclusion of new courses in the curriculum would be helpful for students and how this would cater to the demand of the continuously advancing industry. He also talked about how IIIT NR conquered the challenges it faced and maintained an achievement of 100% placement.

Here are some of the highlights from his interview:
Due to the shortage of qualified talent in the field, there is a vacancy of over 50,000 posts for Machine Learning and Data Science.
Artificial Intelligence can either add to brain power by enhancing knowledge or may overpower by the advancement of it. So, the idea of fear that AI would take jobs can not really be validated.
In order to cater to the requirement of qualified and talented faculty for the new curriculum, IIIT NR will be hiring candidates who are PhDs in the respective subject from a foreign university.
Data Science Engineering and AI are not only required in the field of Engineering. The increased demand for knowledge in the field might lead to its expansion to the management field as well.
Management colleges in India might start introducing AI and Data Science courses soon as the need to acquire a set of skills in this field will add up to the efficiency of a manager.
