As per 10% reservation for EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) in general category , 25% additional seats shall be created in engineering colleges across the Gujarat state. AICTE Chairperson, Mr. Anil Sahasrabuddhe confirmed that there would be a 25% rise in the number of engineering seats in private and government engineering colleges in Gujarat. However, the rise in the number of engineering seats will lead to more number of vacant seats in engineering colleges across the state, he pointed out.
Every year, almost 50% of B.Tech seats in engineering colleges remain vacant. With the creation of 25% additional seats for 10% EWS quota, the percentage of vacant seats in engineering colleges may increase from 50% to 52%.
