Two teams from IIT Kharagpur have won 3 out of 4 awards in the final round of EXL Excellence Quotient 2019. Two students from team ninety degrees won the first spot and two students from the team tesseract got the second spot
EXL Excellence Quotient (EQ) is an annual case study to test the skills of students such as problem identification, structured and methodical approach, logical thinking among the students. Students from 20 premier academic institutes across India including institutes such as 7 NITs and 8 IITs took part in the competition. Total 698 teams had registered out of which 38 qualified in the first round and just 6 teams went ahead to the second round and reached the finals.

The challenge was to design fraud detection methods and also reduce the cost of investigation pertaining to the insurance industry. Participants had to suggest ways to improve the fraud detection process regarding accuracy as well as the time taken for the entire process.
The winning teams analysed the insurance claims using these metrics and fraudulent claims were identified. They built an algorithm which supported all the offerings that an insurance company has on its roadmap and they presented fraud prevention methods such as telematics plug which can help a company turn around its revenue figures.
The winning team got a cash prize of Rs.1.25 lakh as well as certificates and a winning trophy. The runner ups, team Tesseract got a cash prize of Rs.60, 000. Pre-placement offers were also given to the winning teams.

The case study contest provided participants a platform for learning and dealing with real-life consulting problems faced by organisations and how they can apply their academic learning to come up with solutions for such problems.
