Undergraduate Engineering Seats in Bengaluru to Cost More

The engineering seats for undergraduate courses in Bengaluru are likely to cost more as the state government has proposed a 10 percent hike for 2019-20. Now, students will have to shell out Rs.58,800 for government quota seats in private colleges and Rs.2,01,960 for seats under COMEDK.

Undergraduate Engineering Seats in Bengaluru to Cost More

The State Government of Karnataka has decided to hike the undergraduate engineering course fee by 10 percent for 2019-2020. Students are going to witness an 18% hike in the course fees in two years. It indicates that the aspirants will have to spend a lot more on the courses in the coming academic sessions.

After the sudden increase in college fees, the students will have to pay Rs 2,01,960 for the seats under the Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) and Rs 58,800 a year for Government quota seats at private colleges.

The decision was taken in a meeting, which was headed by the Higher Education Minister, GT Devegowda. The representatives of the private engineering and management colleges, representatives from the Karnataka Religious and Linguistic Minority Professional Colleges Association (KRLMPCA) and Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association (KUPECA) were also a part of the meeting. The association at first demanded an increase of around 25% but it was denied by the Chief Minister when discussed, Devegowda said.

The new fees structure has been set in the absence of the Fee Regulatory Committee. The State Government of Karnataka said that no decision has been taken so far to have a Fee Regulatory committee in place. The previous Fee Regulatory Committee, which was led by Justice DV Shailendra Kumar has been dissolved. A new committee is yet to be formed.

However, the State Government declared that the fees of Government Engineering Colleges will remain the same.
