Mr. Prakash Javadekar Minister of Human Resource and Development clarified that the draft of NEP (National Education Policy) is ready A nine-member committee headed by former ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) Chairperson, Mr. Kasturirangan has been appointed to prepare NEP, and the committee is expected to submit the draft of NEP soon.
Minister of HRD, Mr. Prakash Javadekar revealed that the committee convened a meeting last week. During the meeting, the discussion was held regarding the draft of NEP, and the committee assured that it would be released by December-end. The parliamentary debate will be conducted on the first draft of NEP and it will be implemented soon, said by Javadekar.
Mr. Prakash Javadekar further mentioned that the new policy would serve the country for the next 20 years. New Education Policy will be research-oriented, modern and it will produce better citizens.

HRD Minister pointed out that the suggestions from parents, students, legislators and stakeholders were solicited before constituting the panel for drafting NEP. The entire process went on for two and half years, he added.
The panel for drafting NEP was constituted in June 2017. Manjul Bhargava – Fields-medal winning mathematician and Union Tourism Minister – K. J. Alphonse was also among the members of the committee.

Earlier, a committee constituted by former HRD Minister Smriti Irani was appointed to prepare a draft of the proposal. The committee was headed by TSR Subramanian and the draft was submitted in 2016. However, the government considered the recommendations made by this committee as ‘inputs’.
The NEP is expected to play a vital role in revamping the education system in the country, and these reforms are much-needed in the current scenario.
