President Ram Nath Kovind has given his nod for establishing India’s first National Sports University in Manipur . The ordinance to start this university was forwarded with the approval of the Union Cabinet. The Union Cabinet had given its assent for the National Sports University on May 23, 2018.
The first National University will be set up in Imphal, capital of Manipur, with the aim to provide sports facilities and education to enthusiasts who want to enroll in these courses. The university will not only be a training centre for some specific sports disciplines but will also offer specialized courses like sports management, sports science and sports technology.

The National Sports University Ordinance , 2018 will come into force, now that the President of India has given his approval for the same, mentioned the official press release. I also added that the university will help in encouraging and promoting sports education and activities in India. Apart from this, it will also help in creating employment opportunities for the citizens of India.
The University will adopt best international curriculum and practices in order to impart education to sports enthusiasts. It is the belief of the Central Government that the performance of Indian sportspersons will improve at national as well as international level. The Government of Manipur has also provided 325.90 acres of land in Imphal for setting up the university.

The National Sports University Ordinance, 2018, was set up on the lines of National Sports University Bill that was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 10, 2017. Finance Minister , Arun Jaitley, made the announcement regarding the same during the announcement of budget 2014-15.
