A bill was approved by the Union Cabinet on February 26, 2020, through which two National Institutes of Food Technology in Tamil Nadu and Haryana will receive the status of an institution of national importance.
Information and Broadcasting Minister ‘Prakash Javadekar’ in an address to the reporters said that after the cabinet discussion the amendment in the National Institutes of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) Bill, 2019 was approved. The two Food Technology Institutes will be granted National Importance Status.
Mr. Prakash said that the National Institutes of Food Technology (NIFTEM) at Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu and Kundli, Haryana will be conferred special status and it will help Institutes collaborate with the overseas food institutes and improve the education standard.

National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) is an institute of higher education that operates under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. It offers various courses in B.Tech in Food Technology, M.Tech in Food Technology, Ph.D. degrees, etc. It is located in Kundli, Haryana.
