The foundation stone of the Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIITG) campus would be laid by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. The campus is spread over an area of 70 acres and is located at Sontola Gaon, 4 km from the airport towards Goalpura.
IIITG Mentor Director Gautam Barua stated,” IIITG is one of the 20 IIITs set up by the central government in NPPP (not-for-profit public private partnership) mode. The institute is operating from its temporary premises in Assam Textile campus at Ambari in Guwahati. The preliminary construction work has started and buildings are expected to be ready by the end of 2017. Its partners are central government (57.5% funding share), Assam government (35%), Tata Consultancy Services, Oil India Limited, Srei Infrastructure Finance Ltd and Amtron Ltd (1.875% each).”
The function was attended by the Assam Governor, Chief Minister, Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and State Education Minister Sarat Borkotoky.
PM Modi asked the students to make the country self-sufficient in the manufacturing of electronic goods as India, in spite of advancements in the field of science and technology has to depend on imports.
