A third-year student of FTII or the Film & Television Institute of India , Payal Kapadia's film has been selected for the 'Cinefondation' category for the upcoming Cannes Film Festival this year. This is the first time that an FTII student's film has been officially chosen for the popular film festival, for a category that has been created to support and inspire the next generation of the international filmmakers.

In a press note released by the FTII, it stated that the president of Cinefonadation, Mr. Gillies Jacob, confirmed that Payal Kapadia has been invited for the presentation of her film at Cannes.

While sharing her happiness over the fact, she said that Cannes' Students' section is a great effort, and it was FTII which had initially applied for being considered for the Cinefondation category.

Entering into its 20th year this time, the Cinefondation selection has chosen a total of 16 films - of which 14 are pure works of friction while 2 are animation films - from a total of 2600 films that were submitted by various film schools from all over the world.

The prize-winning films (three Cinefondation category films will be chosen) will be screened on 26th May at the Bunuel Theatre at Cannes.

Last week, another FTII Pune also bagged the 'Rajat Kamal' i.e. silver lotus for the best cinematography in the non-feature film category at the 64th National Film Awards.
