Goa Institute of Management (GIM) had announced India’s first full-time Big Data Analytics programme. The institute will soon begin session for the same this season and a total of 60 students have been shortlisted for this 2-year programme .
GIM introduced the Big Data Analytics course keeping in mid the job opportunities that will be open in the coming years with smart cities and all sort of government plans in the pipeline. 2018-19 is the 25th year of GIM’s operations and it has seconded IIM Bangalore by launching the full-time 2 year course in Big Data Analytics as the latter is still in talks to launch a similar programme.

GIM has also established an independent data laboratory in order to facilitate workstations that can support the specialized software much needed for the programme. The aim of the institute is to provide technical training to produce better managers.
Ajit Parulekar, Director of GIM, talked about the course and said that no business in this era works without the use of analytics. Head of the programme, Professor Anand Teltumbde, said that the students enrolled in the course will be trained in public systems, finance, marketing and insurance.
Students were selected for the Big Data Analytics Programme batch 2018-20 through GIM standard selection procedure for management courses. However, the institute is planning to initiate a separate selection process for the programme from 2019.

GIM is also planning to bring five to six companies on-board as programme associates in order to provide industry exposure to students. Through this initiative, students will be able to access the industry data, that is otherwise confidential and learn from hands-on-training . This type of industrial training is one of its kind and will be very helpful for the career of students.
