Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development inaugurated the ninth hostel of the Mizoram University, at the University campus near Aizawl. The hostel has been named ‘Senhri Hall of Residence’.
Constructed for INR 578.36 lakh, this girls hostel can accommodate up to 100 students. The grants were offered University Grant Commission.
The Human Resource Minister discussed issues related to students with R Romawia, State Higher and Technical Education Minister and senior officials of the department at the inauguration.

The Union Minister was apprised of various problems faced by students. One of the problems is that due to slow internet connectivity, students find it tough, to fill up the compulsory online application for scholarships. The minister promised to take up the matter with his Ministry.
Mizoram University established on July 2, 2001, by the Mizoram University Act (2000) is a central university under the UGC. The University came as a result of the Mizoram Accord between Government of India and Mizo National Front on June 30, 1986. In the beginning, the university had seven academic departments that it inherited from North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU). Today it has around 18 academic departments and has further plans to expand the departments to 27.

A plot of land measuring 978.1988 acres with lush greenery and scenic hills, at Tanhril, serves as the permanent campus of Mizoram University. The campus with surrounding tropical forests is one of the most beautiful campuses in India.
The University has provided 5 acres of land to establish Software Technology Parks of India. A MoU has been signed for a 66-year lease. At present, there are 31 undergraduate colleges and 2 professional institutes under the University. The total roll-strength in these institutions is around 87,500 students.
