GNLU Gandhinagar has hosted its 10th convocation ceremony. A total of 218 students from various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses have been granted degrees. Read ahead for more information.
Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) Gandhinagar hosted its 10th convocation ceremony on Saturday i.e. 15th February 2020.
At the convocation of GNLU Gandhinagar, a total of 218 students were granted degrees, out of which 158 students belonged to the five years integrated undergraduate law programme, 50 students from the postgraduate law programme, 9 students from the MBA programme and one from the doctoral programme. 16 students were granted 26 gold medals by the university out of which 22 were received by 12 women students.
Justice D Y Chandrachud of the Supreme Court presided over the convocation ceremony. He spoke at great length about how courage is a lawyer’s hallmark. By courage, he did not merely mean the courage of standing up to the government. He meant that standing up for someone who cannot stand up for himself requires immense courage. He further added that to stand up against a judge who believes in a wrong issue, and to say ‘ sorry you are wrong’ in a respectful way needs courage too.

Justice D Y Chandrachud also talked about women’s ability to combine several roles into one. He said that women have outshone the men. They have the ability to combine multiple roles into one. He pointed out that at present the society is moving towards a platform of equality. He further believes that being good lawyers or judges is not enough in today’s world. An individual needs to be well equipped with technology, science, history, literature and philosophy.
He said that as the world is becoming more interconnected, individuals cannot afford to look at one discipline in isolation.
Justice Chandrachud also highlighted that the interns who have worked with the apex judges have often been very critical of justice and court administration. He says that after becoming a lawyer, an individual becomes an integral part of the administration of justice. He also advises them to focus on cultivating a process of change and constructive dialogue. He further asks them to do some work for the welfare of the public as it is extremely satisfying.

In the convocation ceremony, Vikram Nath, Gujarat High Court Chief Justice and the Justice M R Shah of the Supreme Court were present along with the education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama. The convocation ceremony hosted by the GNLU Gandhinagar gave recognition to the brilliant law students. The university is one of the best socially responsible educational institute of law that believes in striving for professional and academic excellence in the field of legal studies.
