Here is another big accomplishment for a newly opened IIT, IIT-Indore. Twenty-one year old Computer Science student Gaurav Agrawal bagged an offer of 1.7 Crore rupees from Google.
It finally demystified the myth that only the first generation IIT’s students can grab that much of package. Google offered Gaurav, the position as a Software Engineer at U.S.A.
After the placement, Gaurav said, “I wanted to get a good placement when I enrolled myself in the institute but had no idea that it would come this way. It is a moment of pride and happiness for me and my family.”
This the biggest ever package offered to an IIT-Indore student since its establishment. Before this, the biggest package offered at IIT-Indore was to Shivani Gupta. Shivani too was a computer science student, who graduated in 2014. Shivani was offered an annual package of Rs 63 lakhs.
Gaurav is the first engineer of his family. Gaurav will be working in Mountain view, California, which is a hub of all software giants. So for now, the overall campus placement at IIT-Indore stands at 85% in 2014. The figure has witnessed a slump as compared to the previous year.
IIT-Indore's Gaurav Agrawal, a native of Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, is now rubbing shoulders with IIT-BHU student who fetched an annual package of Rs 2.03 crore from Oracle and IIT-Bombay girl who got a job offer of Rs 2 crore (Rs 20 million) from social networking site, Facebook. This offer is the highest package received by any IIT-Indore student in past three years of placement seasons.
"We were told Google was conducting a test online. I appeared for the test. After being shortlisted, we were called for on-site interview session at Gurgaon. Further interviews were held at Bangalore. Questions were asked related to programming structure and algorithms. I have received offer letter to join as a software engineer in The US," said Agrawal. His joining date is yet to come.
