The center has accepted the Punjab government’s proposal for the establishment of a government medical college in Mohali. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh informed the authorities regarding the same and stated that the setting up of a medical college is one of the initial steps to provide healthcare and diagnostic services to the patients of the adjoining areas. He also said that the government will ensure the timely completion of the project and the construction will start soon. The state has already made provisions for the medical college in its current budget.

As per the reports, the government of India will grant Rs. 113.40 crore to the state in three instalments for the infrastructural development and equipment of the medical college.The new medical college at Mohali will incur a cost of Rs. 374 crore out of which Rs. 325 crores will be spent on infrastructure and construction and the leftover sum will be used to buy equipment and to provide other facilities. The central government launched the scheme to set up new medical colleges in the year 2014.

The new medical college will offer the candidates 100 MBBS seats . This initiative will serve as a great development for the candidates who wish to pursue a career in the medical field and will also generate relevant opportunities for various doctors of the state. Chief Minister has also asked the Health Department to acquire more land for the project so that the construction could start and new medical college is functional within the given time frame.
