With an objective to check bogus technical institutes which often mislead students by offering degrees and diplomas in various courses, the government of Haryana has published the names of such technical institutions on the official site and have issued guidelines in this regard.
Students can check the list of bogus technical institutes in Haryana on the official website of All India Council for Technical Education or AICTE. Students need to click on 'Unapproved Institutions' under the link 'Statistics'. One of the officials of the council stated that all these institutes are 'unapproved' by AICTE.

The students can also check the list of 'fake universities' on the official website of University Grants Commission. For this purpose, the students need to visit the UGC website and click on 'Fake Universities' under the sub-link 'For Students'. Both UGC and AICTE updates the list of fake universities and institutions at regular intervals.

As per the official website of AICTE, a total number of 122 institutes have been shut during the academic session 2016-17 as they do not have the mandatory approval from AICTE. On the other hand, a total number of 279 technical institutions across India have been offering courses without the approval of AICTE.
Recently, the government of Telangana had also taken an initiative to close illegal study centres which have been functioning in Hyderabad.
It is ideally the responsibility of students to check the approval and accreditation details of the institution before seeking admission.
The main objective of UGC & AICTE behind revealing the fake university/institute list is to create awareness among the students.
